Review

I think this enough grammar for one lesson. Let's review.

1. A noun is a word that describes a person, place, or thing.

2. A pronoun is a word that stands in place of a noun. That word is called the antecedent. If the antecedent refers to a person, then the pronoun is a personal pronoun.

3. Words are singular (referring to one) or plural (referring to more than one). This is called number and is an example of inflection.

4. Nouns (as well as pronouns and adjectives) have gender. This means they are either masculine, feminine, or neuter.

5. Nouns are third person.

6. Pronouns generally change their form based on their gender. They follow natural gender. A few other words do as well. This is another example of inflection.

7. The subject does the action of the verb and is generally before the verb in word order and answers the question of Who? or What? does the action of the verb. The subject must be in the subjective case.

8. The diret object receives the action of the verb. It generally comes after the verb and answers the question of Who? or What? receives the action of the verb. The direct object must be in the objective case.

9. Let's review the forms of the English third person pronouns.

case masculine feminine neuter
subjective he she it
objective him her it
subjective they they they
