Other ways to say hi
We have different ways of saying "hello" in English, don't we. Especially if we are speaking to a friend we might say "hi." Greek also has other ways of saying "hello".
If you are speaking to one of your friends, you would probably say,
χαίρε
If you were speaking to several of your friends, you would say,
χαίρετε

The "ε" ending on χαίρε means "you," and the "ετε" ending on χαίρετε mean "you" (plural), or as I like to say, "y'all." (I used to live in Kentucky.)
